Hsu's Ginseng Development Milestones
Early Development
1974 Mail order business was established by Paul Hsu under sole proprietorship. Ginseng was the only product sold through mail order.
1975-1976 Began export trade with Taiwan and Hong Kong. Hsu's Ginseng roots and products available in Chinese herbal stores in the U.S.A. and Canada.
Ginseng Cultivation
1978 160-acre farm was purchased and Paul Hsu became the first Chinese ginseng grower in America.
Establishment of Foundation
1981 Moved into 5,000-square-foot office building. Hsu?s was incorporated. President Paul Hsu was appointed by the Governor to the Wisconsin Governor's Advisory Committee on International Trade. Participated in Wisconsin Governor's Trade Delegation to the People's Republic of China.
Development of World Market
1983 Took part in Halumi Food Show in Japan to develop the Far East Markets
1984 Completed major expansion of ginseng farming operation. Participated in Helfex Health Food Show in England to develop the European markets. Company fully computerized.
1985 West Coast branch office was established in Los Angeles to strengthen the wholesale services. Took part in International Health Food Show in Australia to develop the Australian market.
1986 Received the Wisconsin Governor's Award for Export Excellence.
1987 Acquired new plant with 7,500 square feet.
1988 Participated in Helfex International Health Food Show in England to further expand the European markets. East Coast office in New York established. Exclusive distributor in the U.K. appointed.
1989 Over 300 acres of prime ginseng land was purchased.
1990 Developed American Ginseng Tea and Candy. An additional 4,500 square-foot area was constructed to join the two plants together.
1991 Hong Kong (Asia) regional office was established. President Paul Hsu was honored as the Small Business Person of the Year (1991) in the Greater Wausau Area, Wisconsin, U.S.A.
1992 President Paul Hsu was named National Small Business Exporter of the Year (1992) by the U.S. Small Business Administration and was honored and awarded in the White House Rose Garden. Built 9,100 square-foot agricultural drying and storage facility.
1993 to 1995 Hsu's Ginseng Joint Venture Company was established at Zhangjiagang, Jiang Su, China. Canada branch office opened in Toronto. Second Joint Venture Company in China was established at Ning Bo.
1995 China office in Nanjing was established. President Paul Hsu was given the "Award for Distinguished Achievement as an Asian Farmer" by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
1996 Chinese Herbal Health Supplements added to product line. Several hundred acres of prime ginseng land were purchased.
1997 Hsu's Global Mail Order Network" service was provided. Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Scott McCallum officiated the grand opening of Hsu's subsidiary company in Nanjing, China.
1998 Taiwan and Hong Kong added as shipping centers for "Hsu's Global Mail Order Network.
1999 Hsu's upgrades all internal systems to be Y2K compliant. Acquired new warehouses for our New York and Los Angeles offices. Became the sole distributor of Hokkaido Dried Scallop from Gyoren in Japan.
Current Development
2000 Addition of 5,000 sq ft. to our headquarters for warehousing and office space. Launch of our new website - Hsu's Wellness Center. Started Compost Division.
2002 Took on many brand name cosmetics and health foods for catalogue and website.
2004 Signed on Chujoto brand distributor and represented Natto health food from Vedan Corp in Taiwan.
2005 Became member of Something Special from Wisconsin to promote Wisconsin products.
2006 Accompanied Governor Doyle to visit China as part of Wisconsin Trade Delegation to China.
2007 Developed several new health food products among them was Cordyceps Tablets.
2008 A 10,000 square feet new storage, cooling, and drying facility was built to meet the expansion of farming operation and production needs.
